A Texas woman, Abigail Jo Shry, has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill a federal judge overseeing the criminal case against former President Donald Trump and a member of Congress. Shry called the federal courthouse in Washington and left a racist message using a term for U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan. She admitted to making the threatening call and threatened to kill Trump if he didn’t get elected in 2024. She also threatened U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat running for mayor of Houston.
A judge has ordered Shry to be jailed, and his legal representation is with the Houston public defender’s office, which has not provided any comment.
Trump has publicly criticized former assistant public defender Chutkan, calling her “highly partisan” and “very biased & unfair” due to her past comments in a separate case overseeing the sentencing of a defendant charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Chutkan imposed a protective order in the case, limiting the public disclosure of evidence and warning Trump’s lawyers to mount their defense in courtrooms.
