The artist has been working on new music for some time now, and “Chop Life” is a perfect example of the sound and style that fans can expect from him in the future. Gyakie ft. Jbee – Scar Award-winning Ghanaian singer and songwriter Gyakie begins his 2023 music campaign with a new song titled ‘Scar’ featuring Jbee. SCAR is an emotive sound that sonically blends Gyakie’s R&B melodies and soulful vocals with the Sosa produced drill beats. What’s more interesting is how UK’s fast rising young JBEE steps in with his story telling and personal rap lyrics. ‘Scar’ was produced by the usual suspect, Sosa. L.A.X – No Bad Vibes (ALBUM) L.A.X’s career has always been super-charged. From being introduced to mainstream audiences with a lively Wizkid collab to receiving public acceptance for his Fuji-inflected sound, the singer born Damilola Afolabi has always found ways to interpret the heart of Afropop for aural bangers that live long in collective memory. 2018’s Rasaking was a sprawling ode to being young, finding love, and attempting to live vicariously in the public’s eye. On its 2020 follow-up, ZaZa Vibes, the singer displayed a heightened mastery of his emotions, delivering buttery mid-tempos in service of romantic bliss and general satisfaction with life. More importantly, ZaZa Vibes helped confirm L.A.X’s status as one of the most cogent Afropop acts, and that knowledge, as well as a new-found self-assurance in his skills, helps bring forth his 2023 album, No Bad Vibes. Originally made concurrently with ZaZa Vibes, this album follows its predecessor’s sonic template but stands apart for its radical commitment to joy, eschewing songs about romantic trauma or life’s problems for a downright thesis on happiness. “It’s just an album that will keep you going,” L.A.X tells Apple Music. “From track one to the last song, it’s about being joyful. This album is supposed to change your mood if you are sad and if you’re happy, it’s supposed to make you happier. I just want the project to touch lives and I just want to put out music that I love—and that I’m a fan of.” It’s clear to see why he’d be a fan of this set of songs: “Easy On Me” is a pithy plea for romantic bliss while the Konshens-featuring “Change Your Life” is an airy blend of afropop and dancehall. Kofi Kinaata – Effiakuma Love Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kofi Kinaata gifted music lovers with this brand new song entitled Effiakuma Love exactly a week ago. The Two Bars produced song blends Reggae and Highlife rhythms which shows Kinaata’s musical range. Olamide ft. Ckay – Trumpet Veteran Nigerian musician, Olamide has collaborated with skilled vocalist and record producer CKay on his latest hit, “Trumpet.” The song serves as a prelude to Olamide’s upcoming album, as well as his first official release as a lead artist in 2023. The song ‘Trumpet’ was co-produced by P.Priime and Ckay. Wande Coal – Let Them Know Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter Wande Coal has released a new tune titled “Let Them Know.” Wande Coal’s soulful vocals and lyrical mastery are showcased once again on the song, which incorporates major Afrobeats elements. Wande Coal’s love ballad “Let Them Know” shows his wish to keep his love life secret and lowkey. The lyrics are beautiful and genuine, and they are guaranteed to strike a chord with everyone who has experienced the joys and complications of romantic relationships. Kel P, the hit-making beatmaker, produces the music, which features a wonderful blend of lively percussion, soft guitar riffs, and catchy melodies. Kirani Ayat & Fameye ft. Pure Akan – Affairs Award-winning Ghanaian artists Kirani Ayat & Fameye reflect on unrequited love in their first collaboration titled ‘Affairs’. The rapper and singer lay bare their emotions over a Highlife guitar groove, the blend of traditional African percussions and heavy 808 drums creates a unique soundscape for the listener. Kirani Ayat performs in his signature Hausa-English style while Fameye provides a moving Twi chorus. Pure Akan wraps it up with a melancholy outro. Production credit to SOD. Zinoleesky – Many Things Following his impressive verse on Adekunle’s ‘Party No Dey Stop,’ Zinoleesky maintains the momentum with a new single titled ‘ Many Things.’ Zinoleesky, a Marlian Music recording artist, has just released a new tune named “Many Things.” Zinoleesky’s diverse vocal and lyrical deterity are on full display in the song, which was produced by rising beatmaker BabyBeats. “Many Things” exemplifies Zinoleesky’s talent and the exceptional vibe he adds to the Nigerian music scene. He has once again demonstrated that he is a force to be reckoned with and a star to watch with this latest release. DJ Neptune ft. Spyro – Count Your Blessings Renowned Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune and Spyro, the “Who is Your Guy” crooner, have collaborated on a new single titled “Count Your Blessings.” The lively melody is a celebration of life and a reminder to cherish what we have. The song has Spyro’s trademark adlibs, as well as soft vocals and pleasing melodies. The lyrics of the Colonel Tyemmy produced song are cheerful and inspire listeners to be grateful for their benefits, no matter how minor they may appear. KevTheTopic – L.O.M.M Rapper, singer, and songwriter KevTheTopic releases his second single of the year dubbed “L.O.M.M” which is an acronym for ‘Literally Out My Mind”. The song which is produced by North American based-Ghanaian producer “Boye The Genius” is another single off the rapper’s upcoming LP rumored to be released in the second quarter of 2023. Before this, he released BRODO featuring EL which performed well on most popular streaming services. Combining elements of hip hop, Gh rap, trap, flawless delivery, powerful vocals, and cocky lyrics the song comes together nicely as a beautiful sonic experience for every rap fanatic. “L.O.M.M” is a tongue-in-cheek track poking fun at how other rappers in the African music scene aren’t as skilled as KevTheTopic. It’s a spot-on attempt at exhibiting rap skills effortlessly but flippantly. It’s meant to inspire confidence in the listener. This is definitely one to put on replay.
