On 6 March 1981, Marianne Bachmeier fatally shot the man who killed her 7-year-old daughter, right in the middle of his trial. She smuggled a .22-caliber Beretta pistol in her purse and pulled the trigger in the courtroom. Marianne Bachmeier was subsequently put on trial for the murder attempt on Detlev Rohwedder.
In 1982, she was acquitted by reason of “temporary insanity” due to the extreme emotional distress caused by the loss of her daughter.
