Peak Time is an idol survival series where a cast of already-debuted male K-pop idols will compete for the title of “Worldwide Idol”. The participants of Peak Time are from rookie boybands or acts that are currently inactive or disbanded and who are hoping for a second chance in the spotlight.

Yesterday (December 20), the South Korean cable network revealed the cast of eight musicians who will be acting as judges on the upcoming series. SUPER JUNIOR’s Kyuhyun, WINNER’s Song Mino, Jay Park, Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany Young, Highlight’s Lee Gikwang and INFINITE’s Kim Sung-kyu.

Rounding out the list of judges are performance director Shim Jae-won and producer Ryan Jhun. The former is known for his work under SM Entertainment and with groups like SHINee, aespa, EXO and more, while the latter has worked on several K-pop hits from LOONA, f(x), NCT, IU and Taeyeon, among others.

Speaking to Newsen on the announcement, an unnamed producer on Peak Time told the outlet, as translated by Soompi: “We put a lot of effort into forming the judging panel. And since this is Korea’s first audition show that is being conducted via teams, viewers can look forward to seeing judging that evaluates the overall potential of the team that goes beyond the individuals as evaluated by eight [judges] with different colours.”

Jay Park also spoke to the publication on his work as a judge on the series. “I don’t know why these gems haven’t been able to see the light until now,” he said, before telling Newsen about plans to debut an idol group under his newly launched label More Vision.

Hosting Peak Time is actor-singer Lee Seung-gi, who JTBC dubbed “the best host who is irreplaceable in terms of his excellence and of course, his unrivalled music capacity to sympathise with and represent what the contestants are going through in the show”. Peak Time is currently slated for a premiere sometime in early 2023.
