A young Israeli woman who saw her grandmother being murdered by a Hamas terrorist online broke down today as she described the bloody scene she witnessed after the killer posted the footage to the elderly victim’s own Facebook page.
Mor Bayder said she only found out about the tragedy when going on the social media platform to see the horrific post at 7am on Sunday – calling the video the ‘nightmare of my life’. She said it was her aunt that initially alerted her and her mother to the horrific live stream that showed her grandmother’s final moments – in a pool of blood on the floor of her home in Israel. The murder is just one of hundreds of deaths which have occurred since Saturday, when Hamas gunman stormed into Israel and indiscriminately attacked civilians. A terrified Gili Yoskovich hid under a tree shaking for three hours as bullets whizzed around her as terrorists opened fire on Saturday morning at defenceless revellers at an all-night trance music rave in the desert near Kibbutz Re’im, close to the Gaza Strip. The mother described how young people – whose night celebrating the end of the Sukkot religious holiday had turned to terror – were dying all around her and on the road as Hamas militants went ‘tree to tree’ on a killing spree. As the gunmen opened fire, Gili sprinted for her life and hid beneath a fruit tree in the middle of the field where she stayed until she heard people speaking in Hebrew and was rescued by Israeli soldiers. ‘I saw people were dying all around. I was very quiet. I didn’t cry, I didn’t do anything,’ she told the BBC. Gili lay still thinking about her children telling herself ‘it’s not time to die yet’. But the ‘most crazy thing’, she says, was how they were there for hours without the army coming to their rescue. ‘Then I started to hear some Hebrew from one side, [but] Arabic from three sides. “Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years on Saturday, killing at least 40 people and wounding hundreds in a surprise assault that combined gunmen crossing into Israel with a barrage of rockets fired from Gaza.
Israel said the Iran-backed group had declared war as its army confirmed fighting with militants in several Israeli towns and military bases near Gaza, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to retaliate. “Our enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known,” he said. “We are in a war and we will win it.” Israel’s ambulance service said at least 40 Israelis were killed and hundreds wounded in the Hamas attack but the total appeared likely to rise. A Reuters photographer saw multiple bodies lying in streets of the southern town of Sderot. The Israeli military said it had responded with air strikes into Gaza, where witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions and multiple dead and wounded being carried into hospitals. Palestinian health officials said dozens of people had been killed as bombardments hit deep into Gaza City, sending clouds of black smoke spiralling into the sky. Hamas said the attack was driven by what it said were Israel’s escalated attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, Jerusalem and against Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
