Wei Luo Confirms 10 Dates For China

Wei Luo is recognised as a significant pianist of her generation. Having already performed on many of the world’s leading stages in her young career, Wei Luo’s self-titled debut album released in 2019 was a momentous event. It is no surprise that Universal Music Group’s Decca Gold was the label to work with. The release received rave reviews. San Diego Union Tribune commended the recording, said: “This recording reveals a dazzling artist with an astonishing range of colours at her disposal, put to the service of a confident young soul whose musicality suggests the experience of someone two decades older.”

Her recent 13-concert recital tour nationwide – in China’s major cities including Shanghai Concert Hall, Beijing National Center of Performing Art, and Guangzhou Opera House in Harbin – are just a few of the prominent venues hosting the tour.

For World Sleep Day last year, Wei participated in a campaign organised by Universal Music Group. Along with 18 other UMG musicians worldwide, she recorded Nocturne by Christopher Tin, a Grammy award-winning composer.

Under Wei Luo’s solo tour, ‘ The Song of Ice & Fire’, she confirmed ten dates in China this August. The dates are as below.

6 Aug – Weifang Grand Theater, Weifang
7 Aug – Zoucheng, Poly Mencius Grand Theater, Shandong
9 Aug – Hengshui Poly Grand Theatre, Shandong
16 Aug – Guangxi Culture & Art Center, Guangxi
18 Aug – Linping Grand Theater, Hangzhou, Zhejiang
19 Aug – Qidong Grand Theatre, Qidong
21 Aug – Zhuhai Grand Theatre, Zhuhai
23 Aug – Huizhou Culture & Art Center, Guangdong
25 Aug – Liaoyang Grand Theatre

The solo recital tour’s very finale concert will be held at the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing on the 12 Nov. Program as follows:

Tchaikovsky: Dumka & Romance
Rachmaninoff: Vocalise
Prokofiev 7th Sonata
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition

When In Love is a duo tour with Chang. So far, two dates have been confirmed although the program has yet to be announced.

12 August – Zhongshan Art & Culture Center, ZhongShan, China
26 Aug – Concert Hall, Xi’An

Wei Luo’s collaboration with Jia Lu as conductor next month will culminate in a special Classics Appreciation concert for “The Heritage of Classics” theme at the Beijing Concert Hall on 17 Sept have confirmed a program to include the following.

Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4
Brahms: Symphony No.3 in F Major
Conductor: Jia Lu
Piano: Wei Luo

Born in Shenzhen, China, Wei showed great interest in music and began piano lessons at age five. She gave her debut recital in Hong Kong at age six.

Winner of numerous competitions in China, Wei also claimed first prize in the 11th Chopin International Competition for Young Pianists in Poland and the 2nd Rachmaninov International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Frankfurt, both in 2010.

In 2012, at age thirteen, Wei was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she studies with Gary Graffman and Robert McDonald.
