Watch NIKI cover Andra and The Backbone’s ‘Sempurna’ at Coachella

Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI performed a cover of Andra and The Backbone’s ‘Sempurna’ at Coachella over the weekend.

The 88rising artist performed the track during her set on Day 1 (April 15) of Coachella, dedicating the track to her family and her home country of Indonesia. The cover lasts just under two minutes, with NIKI performing the first verse and chorus of the iconic Indonesian track.

‘Sempurna’ was first released in 2006 as part of Andra and The Backbone’s self-titled debut album. The song would go on to become the veteran Indonesian rock band’s biggest hit, with over 90million collective streams online.

Andra and The Backbone is led by Andra Ramadhan, also the lead guitarist of Dewa 19. Other members of Andra and The Backbone include DeadSquad guitarist Stevie and former journalist Dedy Lisan of Hai Magazine.

For the rest of her Coachella 2022 set, NIKI performed hits from her discography, including fan-favourite tracks such as ‘Every Summertime’, ‘La La Lost You’ and ‘Strange Land’.

NIKI is next set to perform at Weekend 2 of Coachella on Friday (April 22). It is currently unclear if she will perform the same setlist.

Other acts who performed at 88rising’s Head In The Clouds Forever programme at Coachella include Rich Brian, Warren Hue, CL, Jackson Wang, Hikaru Utada, MILLI and BIBI.

K-pop group 2NE1, who disbanded in 2016, reunited for one song during leader CL’s set on Saturday (April 16). For their Coachella performance, the group – Bom, CL, Dara and Minzy – performed their hit ‘I Am The Best’.
