“An Israeli strike has killed more than 500 Palestinians at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, according to Gaza?s health ministry. The Israeli military says the bombing ? one of the deadliest attacks on a hospital in decades ? was the result of a misfired Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket. The mass killing at the hospital has spurred widespread international condemnation and protests at Israeli embassies in several countries. Protesters have clashed with Palestinian police in the occupied West Bank, underscoring anger at the Palestinian Authority leadership. US President Joe Biden is on his way to Israel where he is set to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But a planned summit in Amman with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and the leaders of Jordan and Egypt has been cancelled. A young Israeli woman who saw her grandmother being murdered by a Hamas terrorist online broke down today as she described the bloody scene she witnessed after the killer posted the footage to the elderly victim’s own Facebook page.
Mor Bayder said she only found out about the tragedy when going on the social media platform to see the horrific post at 7am on Sunday – calling the video the ‘nightmare of my life’. She said it was her aunt that initially alerted her and her mother to the horrific live stream that showed her grandmother’s final moments – in a pool of blood on the floor of her home in Israel. The murder is just one of hundreds of deaths which have occurred since Saturday, when Hamas gunman stormed into Israel and indiscriminately attacked civilians. “Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years on Saturday, killing at least 40 people and wounding hundreds in a surprise assault that combined gunmen crossing into Israel with a barrage of rockets fired from Gaza.
Israel said the Iran-backed group had declared war as its army confirmed fighting with militants in several Israeli towns and military bases near Gaza, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to retaliate. “Our enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known,” he said. “We are in a war and we will win it.” Israel’s ambulance service said at least 40 Israelis were killed and hundreds wounded in the Hamas attack but the total appeared likely to rise. A Reuters photographer saw multiple bodies lying in streets of the southern town of Sderot. The Israeli military said it had responded with air strikes into Gaza, where witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions and multiple dead and wounded being carried into hospitals. Palestinian health officials said dozens of people had been killed as bombardments hit deep into Gaza City, sending clouds of black smoke spiralling into the sky. Hamas said the attack was driven by what it said were Israel’s escalated attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, Jerusalem and against Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
