John Williams announced to set an original soundtrack to the Japanese Manga, Blue Orchestra.

Deutsche Grammophon has been a long-time collaborator in John Williams’ music distribution and release. Over the decades, Williams has scored everything from Star Wars to Jurassic Park. Deutsche Grammophon recently revealed that the composer will collaborate with anime creators Makoto Akui and Shogakukan. This collaboration is part of John Williams’ 90th birthday project. That will culminate in the release of Blue Orchestra, an animation series.

On May 4, Deutsche Grammophon released the song, Imperial March (from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back). Accompanying the animated video of the popular Japanese manga Ao No Orchestra, literally translated as Blue Orchestra. The Star Wars composer and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performed this version of the soundtrack.

Sho Kobayashi, the deputy editor-in-chief at Shogakukan (@Sho_MangaOne), confirms the news recently on Twitter with the Star Wars composer. “I am working on the project with John Williams, the master composer behind Star Wars and Jurassic Park. I wish I could tell my younger self in the high school orchestra club. [Someone] who used to play John’s theme for E.T. that I’d be working with him in the future.”

This is great news for the Manga and anime communities. Williams is one of the greatest composers in history. His compositions for international films — Harry Potter to Indiana Jones — have made him one of the most famous composers alive. John Williams’ music will bring unprecedented attention to Blue Orchestra. And anime fans are excited to hear what the legendary composer has planned for the project.
