Celebrated musical franchise ‘Coke Studio’ opened its doors to Bangladesh earlier this month. The first season of the project will put out a playlist of ten songs, focusing on the folk heritage of Bangladesh.

‘Nasek Nasek’ is a Hajong fusion song that pays tribute to the diverse and vibrant indigenous languages in Bangladesh.

Helmed by renowned singer and composer, Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, who has joined the show as the music producer, Nasek Nasek is composed and arranged by Adit Rahman. Faizan R Ahmad (Buno) was tasked as the chief sound engineer. Mixing and mastering were executed by Yash Divecha.

“I am very excited that we were finally able to share our first song with the people. Hopefully, everyone enjoyed the music that we had so much fun creating. This is only the beginning as we have a great line-up ahead for season one,” Arnob said.

Prior to releasing Nasek Nasek, Coke Studio Bangla debuted with a Baul-Rabindra Sangeet fusion version of ‘Ekla Chalo Re’; a song and music video synonymous with the beginning of a new journey – a calling for everyone to remain true to themselves and walk the path they believe in. Released during a Facebook Live broadcast from Coke Studio Bangla and its YouTube Channel. The event was hosted by singer-actor Tahsan. Nasek Nasek was performed by Adit (piano and backing vocal), Rahin (saxophone), Sayonton Mangsang (saxophone), Mazruq Islam Nafi (drums), Faizan Rashid Ahmad Buno (bass), Imran Ahmed (guitar), Shuvendu Das Shuvo (mandolin and guitar), Saadul Islam (guitar), Pradyut Chatterjea (synths), Mithun Chakra (percussions) and Mubarak (mandira). Jannatul Firdous Akbar, Warda Ashraf and Rubayat Rehman provided backing vocals.

The music video was directed by Krishnendu Chattopaddhyay, and produced by Dope Productions Private.

The video already amassed 1,3 million views on YouTube at the time of writing; just two days after it was released.

Coke Studio Bangla is produced by Grey Advertising Bangladesh, with Syed Gousul Alam Shaon as the Creative Producer of the show.

In the quintessential ‘Coke Studio’ style, which brings together a myriad of musical styles – from classical, folk to Sufi and qawwali — the Bangladesh edition is also likely to opt for new fusion tunes. The show is known to elevate Pakistan’s multiculturalism by inviting artistes from different regionalities and languages to collaborate together.

Whether the Bangladesh version will cross borders and bring in Indian Bangla singers is yet to be seen, but the Bangla ‘Coke Studio’ already promises to offer a variety of musical genres and styles.

The ‘Coke Studio’ franchise was first launched in Pakistan in 2008. Since then, it had seen massive popularity when it arrived in India in 2011. Unifying the traditional notes of Bangla music with global sound techniques, in Bangladesh too, ‘Coke Studio’ plans to transcend established borders of music, and find new horizons.
