Billboard Vietnam Debuts NYE Virtual Countdown 2022

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s capital city and its nationwide population, saw its annual New Year’s Eve celebration in a virtual and kaleidoscopic setting. Themed “Reset, Unite, Restart” the party is aimed to convey a message of a brighter tomorrow.

It was aired on national television as well on social and streaming platforms: Facebook and YouTube. At 8:30 pm on New Year’s Eve, it was also viewed on VieON, a leading video-on-demand service provider in Vietnam.

Starting from 8:30 pm, the party was live-streamed on YouTube, Facebook Billboard Vietnam, and the VieON application. A kind of entertainment allowing everyone to celebrate in the comforts of a safer environment to fight against the pandemic.

Each year, thousands of people would gather and surround Nguyễn Huệ Street to celebrate the iconic NYE celebration. Even during pre-covid times, the show has always been made in par excellence to match international standards. And is broadcast on television.

The last offline event, a physical event nevertheless, gathered 70,000 people and was seen by millions of households.

But this year, there is a twist involving virtual attendance to the country’s most vibrant end-of-the-year show.

Organised by Capital Studio Media City, it wanted to keep developing the idea of the previous year’s virtual setting. With a strong message to unite audiences, it blended the traditional with modernity, working with virtual production techniques using XR technology. This approach is a remarkable stepping stone moment for Vietnam’s creative and entertainment industry.

This upgraded version combined virtual production with traditional elements to create something uplifting and extraordinary for audiences to experience while at home.

The entire virtual landscape was crafted by combining two iconic locations: Nguyễn Huệ walking street and Hạ Long Bay, all interconnected by a clock tower. The result was the three epic stages.

Vietnam’s rising stars showcased at the event included singers Đông Nhi, Văn Mai Hương and Vũ Cát Tường, and rapper Wowy.

The event is organised by Capital Studio Media City, a global hub for all things production, and co-created with its partners Amberstone Event, Novel Production, Box Collective, NTROPIC Asia. Also in association with InQ International, Amplify, with Billboard Music Vietnam as an Official Media Partner and VieOn as OTT partner.

Tik Tok was also featured as a partner to the event.

So, who runs the show? The show is led by Capital Studio’s CEO Myke Brown. His vision for having participated in the music industry has had a positive impact across content production and new media technologies. He is the Co-Founder of
Capital Studio and Ntropic Asia and also serves as the CEO of Billboard Vietnam.
