The High Up Entertainment girl group took to their official social media yesterday (January 31) to share a “collage image” for the comeback, during which the group also announced the title, format and release date of their forthcoming comeback. Revealed to be a single album titled ‘Teddy Bear’, the record is currently slated for release on February 14. Other key details, namely its tracklist, have yet to be unveiled at the time of publication.

The long-awaited announcement of STAYC’s comeback comes only a few days after a new interview with the six-piece went live, during which the members teased new details of the single album. “What STAYC pursues and is best at is conveying bright energy and a hopeful message. In our upcoming album, that vibe is especially captured well. To the point where you could say our new track is STAYC’s identity,” group leader Sumin told Singles Magazine of the new record, as translated by Soompi.

Elsewhere in the interview, the band also shared some insight into their personal approaches to live performances as well as rehearsals. “I always bear in mind that the overall situation cannot always be good. We perform live for most of our performances and in order to courageously deal with any kind of environment, we prioritise connecting with the live audience,” explained main vocalist Sieun.

“Instead, during practice, we make the song, choreography, and gestures completely our own. It has to be down pat to the point where it will come out automatically, even in an unexpected situation, for us to wholeheartedly focus on the atmosphere [of the live performance].”

Isa also chimed in on the group’s policy for practices: “I believe that what’s more important than the amount you practice is doing it properly one time. Even if we’re not on stage, [our practices] are never halfhearted. That way if we go on stage in poor condition, no matter how poorly we do, I think the image we practiced will still appear.”

STAYC’s comeback later this month was first confirmed last month by High Up Entertainment in a statement to Sports Kyunghang. The impending arrival of ‘Teddy Bear’ will mark the first time the K-pop group have released new music in roughly seven months, with their last music being the July 2022 single album ‘We Need Love’. Led by title track ‘Beautiful Monster’, the four-track project also included B-sides ‘I Like It’, ‘Love’, as well as a TAK remix of previous February 2022 hit single ‘RUN2U’.

All four tracks on ‘We Need Love’ were written and composed by hitmakers Black Eyed Pilseung, frequent STAYC collaborator Jeon Goon, and producers Rado and Flyt. Black Eyed Pilseung are also executives at STAYC’s label High Up Entertainment.

NME’s Tanu I. Raj awarded ‘We Need Love’ three stars, writing that it was “disappointing to find that they may have played it safe on ‘We Need Love’”. They continued: “Despite the individual strengths of its songs, ‘We Need Love’ leaves much to be desired as a whole. It seems to be missing not only the aforementioned experimental streak STAYC have become synonymous with, but also complexity in the story they build.”
