Original Press Release

SINGAPORE – The Asian Academy Creative Awards announced its winners for the National Round of judging today with Netflix, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Asian powerhouse streamer VIU all locked in a battle for top honours.

They were joined at the top of the win tally by Singapore’s Mediacorp who garnered 20 National Wins and a further 9 via production partners.

Under the Asian Academy’s unique judging system, local judges choose the best programmes or artists to represent their nation or territory at December’s Grand Awards and Gala Final. Then international judging panels vote to select the ultimate winner in each of the 40 categories.

Regarded as Asia-Pac’s most prestigious awards for creative excellence, The Grand Awards, Gala Finals and Red Carpet will be staged at Singapore’s historic Chijmes Hall on December 7th and 8th held in conjunction with the Asia Television Forum.

National Wins By Company

Singapore’s Mediacorp were out in full strength, reflecting a busy production period. They claimed 20 categories in their own right plus a further 9 via production partners.

Netflix will go into the competition with an outstanding 22 National Wins plus a further 3 alongside production alliances.

India will be represented across 32 categories and, going on past performance, will set itself the goal of collecting the most gold in December. Interestingly, the Members of Jury there went for Prime Video’s rural crime series, “Suzhal – The Vortex” for Best Drama Series. Best Drama Series has gone to Korea for the last 2 years running. This year the judges are betting on the CJ ENM/Studio Dragonromantic drama “Twenty Five Twenty One” from Netflix.

OH THE DRAMA

The competition amongst the scripted categories is a boon for viewers (and distributors) looking to compile a list of must see shows in the lead-up to December’s Grand Awards and Gala Final.

The biggest movers were Philippines’ “Broken Marriage Vow” which sits alongside Thailand’s “Remember 15” with 6 nods from the local judging round.

Perhaps surprisingly, that’s despite neither show claiming their nation’s Best Drama Series category (which went to “On The Job” and “Wannabe” respectively).

Malaysia’s “Ganjil” (VIU), Taiwan’s “Light The Night” (Netflix) and “Tavern By The Lethe” (FormosaTV) will all arrive in December with 3 national Wins to their credit.

WATCH OUT FOR THE AUSSIES

Only two shows have every won the elusive “Double” of an Emmy and a golden “Goddess of Creativity” statuette. India’s “Delhi Crime” was one and Australia’s lovable “Bluey” is the other. Bluey is back in the running for Best Pre School programme.

Elvis is in the building! Australia’s Method Studios holds the record for 4 consecutive golden Goddess statuettes (in the same category) and is gunning for a fifth with its special effects work on “Elvis” for Warner Bros.

Australia and New Zealand have combined for 21 national wins this year. New Gold Mountain is up for 4 and SBS features in 9 of the wins.
