Kuching-born Dayang Nurfaizah Wins Best Recording Album at AIM23

Malaysia’s music award Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) has recently announced its 2022’s winners.

The 23rd edition of Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) made a glitzy comeback after a five-year hiatus. Recently held on 11 September 2022 at the Shah Alam City Council Auditorium and performers included Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Marsha Milan Londoh, Kaka Azraff, Aina Abdul, Janna Nick, Hafiz Suip, and more.

This year’s awards saw prominent names attending and presenting the show: Ziana Zain, Datuk M. Nasir, Reshmonu, Jaclyn Victor, Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, and Wany Hasrita. Indonesian singer Keisya Levronka also made an appearance.

Among the big winners is Kuching-born powerhouse singer, Dayang Nurfaizah. The Malaysian singer won Best Engineered Song for ‘Tudung Periuk’ (Belagu album), and also Best Engineered Album for ‘Belagu’. Produced by award-winning producer and music director, Aubrey Suwito, ‘Belagu’ features a reimagining version of timeless classic Malay songs recorded in a live setting environment. Other significant collaborators of the album include Ari Renaldi and Simon Khoo.

‘Tudung Periuk’ also won best song arrangement.

“Belagu is a showcase of spectacular and skillful musicianship skills executed to perfection. It also marks one of producer Aubrey Suwito’s most distinguished work to date and exemplifies great maturity and class for classics in the Malay language,” said Monica Tong, editor-in-chief of Music Press Asia.

Previously her latest collaboration with Hael Husaini to sing in his album ‘Harum’ won spectacular reviews from judges at the Anugerah Juara Lagu in 2018.

Malaysian hip-hop artist Yonnyboii won AIM 23’s Best Album for his self-titled album titled YONNY (Deluxe Version). The award show also named Syamel and Ernie Zakri’s song ‘Goodbye Hello’ as AIM 23’s Best Song. Earlier this year, Yonnyboii released a romantic single, a synth-pop ballad titled ‘Niki’ dedicated to his wife.

FORCEPARKBOIS was announced for garnering the highest stream online. Released in 2021 their song ‘Lotus’ garnered a positive feedback. Smooth lyricism in the Malay language, it is written and performed by Blxckid, Nakalness, Han Panas, Nish, Ch1k, Aali,3gp, Fuegonep, Noel, Laws and Asset.Bo.

AIM 23 is organised by RIM, Malaysia’s recording industry association.
