Taipei City National Theater: A Cultural Ziggurat

The Palace architecture where culture is in the present.

Built in 1987, the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall is the first national-level cultural venue in Taiwan. In addition to hosting major performances, the two major buildings of the center—the National Theater & Concert Hall—are major Taipei landmarks. Adding a stately elegance to the traditional Chinese palace style, the roof is of distinctive yellow tiles.

In addition to enjoying world-class musical, dance and theater performances, center visitors can also tour the cultural gallery and performing arts library. The center also offers regular guided tours for a more in-depth look at the world of performance arts in Taipei.

In 2005, thousands gather on Liberty Square to watch the performance of Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker in National Concert Hall.

Music Program in June 2022:

Title: 2022新點子實驗場：三個人《催化效應—融·共感》/ Catalysis: Fusion of Senses
Date: 3-5 June 2022

This program is an interdisciplinary concert that features a bamboo flute, a Chinese zither, a Ruan – an ancient Chinese music instrument – and a string quartet. This concert incorporates dance and images, but is based on music as the main feature. It creates a fusion of senses that interpret the composer’s creative thoughts. Additionally, it leads the audience to experience the unprecedented catalysis of interdisciplinary arts. A fusion of skills to appeal to multiple senses.

2022新點子實驗場：洪于雯《聲妖錄》 / Hung YuWen：Parallax archeology
Date: 24-26 June 2022

It is said that gates to the underworld open at Ghost Month. Likewise, this is how Parallax Archeology is conceived from Hung Yu-wen’s fascination with the subject of monsters. It explores a dimension parallel to daily life through audio and visual “différance”. In this space-time, the shapes of monsters originate from sound. The production is a promenade theatre work that incorporates installations and performance, inviting the audience to expand their senses and enter the illusory world of audio monsters.
