PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai To Exhibit China Showcase

Written by on 12/05/2022

Ready for a good soaking of arts from the East? Join PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai for an explosive exhibition at the Somerset House this week from 12-15 May. Titled China Showcase, the exhibition is presenting 10 Chinese artists represented by some of the Fair’s leading exhibitors.

The exhibition is a partnership between World Photography Organisation and Photo London. Objectively, it aims to foster creative dialogue and cross-cultural collaborations. What a great way to create beautifully curated content.

Here’s what we’re recommending:

Time Immemorial by Yang Yongliang (Matthew Liu Fine Arts)
Yang examines the processes of urban development in a series that combines Chinese traditional landscape art with digital techniques.

Lingering Garden by Guo Guozhu (Matthew Liu Fine Arts)
Guo depicts the eerie remains of abandoned villages.

Fade by Jiang Zhi (X Contemporary Art)
Jiang takes audiences back to an ordinary home in China in the 1970s.

Liu Ke (Three Shadows +3 Gallery)
Liu photographs scenes at the Three Gorges Dam where residents are faced with changes in their living environment.

Several of the artists presented consider the theme of life and death. They include Hu Weiyi from HdM Gallery. In Blue Bones, she uses X-rays of patients and embeds them with negatives of flowers.

PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai is part of The Art Assembly. More importantly, its affiliation with major international art fairs in the Asia Pacific region gives weight to its artistic force. Its ties with Taipei Dangdai, India Art Fair, Sydney Contemporary, PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai and the forthcoming ArtSG, continue to attract and develop artistic interest among the youth.
