Exclusive photos from Charli XCX’s new music video

There’s no pop girlie feeding us like Charli XCX right now and it looks like she’s not done yet. After her new chart-topping album Crash blessed us with banger after banger in the form of “Good Ones” and “Baby” and iconic collabs with Rina Sawayama, Caroline Polachek and Christine and the Queens, she’s now released a new music video for her Robin S sampling song “Used To Know Me,” and it has some very iconic looks.

Earlier this month mysterious pictures began circulating on social media, revealing Charli is once again adorning a cheerleading outfit in the new video, like she did in the “Fancy” music video all the way back in 2014 with Iggy Azalea. This time though, she’s in her blonde era (which means that soon enough twinks everywhere are going to be fighting to buy the last bottle of Garnier blonde hair dye from Superdrug).

These photos by Terrence O’Connor capture some of the other stunning looks from the music video, all styled by Chris Horan. There’s a boob-y Marie Antionette moment with a diamante and pearl ‘XCX’ necklace and Charli sensually eating cake, a neon-kawaii e-girl look and a cutesy intimate home scene with the singer in white underwear that is perhaps a nod to her beloved 2020 lockdown album cover. Another picture has Charli in dominatrix leathers with a Romeo + Juliet (1996) style crucifix behind her, whilst a final scene is serving disco with glittery dance looks and bouffant dip-dyed hair.

Charli’s fifth studio album (and her final one under a major label before she goes independent) has been her most successful to date. Forgo-ing the experimental hyperpop she has dominated over recent years, the dance pop record topped the charts in the UK, Ireland and Australia as well as being her first to break the Top 10 in the US. “Used To Know Me” is already a favourite from the album with its club ready beat and break up anthem lyrics and no doubt it will continue this Charli era’s iconic legacy.
